About the Author
Jim Trelease ,who raduated from the University of Massachusetts, is a American reading research expert. He served as a writer and painter for Springfield daily for 20 years. In the meantime,, he went to community schools as a volunteer every week to talk with children about topics related to his career.
In 1979, he published a pamphlet at his own expense to publicize the importance of reading aloud and compiled a list of reading aloud books. This is the embryonic form of the Read-Aloud Handbook.
Since 1983, Trelease has been fully committed to educational research activities, giving speeches to parents, teachers and professional groups on topics such as children, literature and television media.
In 1989, he was rated as one of the eight people who contributed to the promotion of reading in the 1980s by the International Reading Organization.
On January 31, 2008, Trelease finished his public speech and decided to retire to accompany his family. On the eve of his retirement, he donated more than 2000 children’s books to the Mary Dryden veterans school, the school he volunteered to visit.
Over the past 30 years, he has given more than 2500 speeches and won praise from all walks of life. Since its first edition in 1982, the Read-Aloud Handbook has been revised every few years according to the progress of the times and research updates. This book is the author’s revised edition.
